2018 Third Annual Fundraiser

2018 Third Annual Fundraiser

Our Third Annual Brian Gewirtz Memorial Foundation Fundraiser Luncheon and Auction took place on Sunday, May 20. 2018. We raised over $5000 from this event. The proceeds went toward the purchase of a piano for PS277Q a special school that teaches disabled students. We are also currently purchasing another piano for Bellevue Hospital rehabilitation unit. Continuing the tradition of our charity events in Brooklyn, NY we gave our first annual campership to a disabled young man so that he may attend Camp Turk for a week during the summer of 2018. We also gave $500 scholarships to two graduating high school seniors, one at Edward R Murrow High School and another at James Madison High School via the proceeds from our fundraising events in Brooklyn.

First Annual Summer Campership

First Annual Summer Campership

With your support, the foundation was able to give out its first annual Camp Turk campership for one week at camp to Cameron Peters. This young man is braver than most children his age, not only does he have a disability but recently lost his mother due to illness. Four siblings including Cameron went to live with family members. Thanks to our charity events in Brooklyn NY, it was truly our pleasure to send this young man to camp especially during this sad time.

2017 Second Annual Fundraiser

2017 Second Annual Fundraiser

Our Second Annual Fundraiser on May 20, 2017 raised over $5,000 for various projects and scholarships. We had 105 people attend this year’s auction and celebrated Brian’s 23rd Birthday in Heaven in a big way, with over 65 prizes including Nautica luggage, Lenox serving for six, a tool box full of tools, flying lessons and a yoga retreat among other great prizes. With the money raised we were able to purchase a piano for Ramapo for Children, give an additional scholarship to a student with a disability at Edward High School as well as James Madison High School and plan to again sponsor a piano at a school in coordination with Sing for Hope. We hope to beat these goals with our charity events in Brooklyn, NY 2018.

Edward R Murrow High School Memorial Award

Edward R Murrow High School Memorial Award

On June 1, 2017, this prestigious award was presented to Anyia James along with a check for $250. Unlike other charity events in Brooklyn NY, this award was particularly moving since it was presented by Brian’s sister, Lisa, who was also a graduating senior. Here is what Lisa had to say about the award, “This award is very special. It is in memory of my brother, Brian, who passed away when I was in sophomore year. Brian was my older brother, my friend, and my mentor. We played, as children, crazy games like dark tag and monopoly and he would put up with me when I threw a fit when I didn’t win. He looked out for me, made me lunch, picked me up from after school and from music lessons and watched over me even though he always said I was a brat. I may have been a brat, but that’s what little sisters do. I love him and miss him very much. It is in his memory that this award is given.”
