Outreach Programs.

Since its inception, the BGM Foundation has advanced holistic rural development through sustainable cattle welfare, ecological conservation, and inclusive community outreach, particularly across Palghar, Maharashtra. Its integrated approach has improved the lives of both cattle and vulnerable tribal communities.

At the heart of these efforts is the Outreach Program, which delivers targeted, locally grounded interventions in animal husbandry, sustainable agriculture, women’s empowerment, youth skilling, rural education, and biodiversity conservation. By working closely with grassroots partners, the Foundation ensures each initiative is participatory, community-owned, and designed for long-term impact. Continuous field engagement, monitoring, and adaptive learning make these interventions both scalable and replicable. The different ways in which BGM engages with locals and partners are listed below:

Support To Farmers And Goshalas

A key pillar of BGM’s Outreach Program is supporting small farmers and Goshalas by distributing high-genetic-potential cows and bulls at no cost, promoting ethical dairy practices and improving rural livelihoods. The program also uses frozen semen from elite bulls to advance indigenous breed improvement.

In partnership with the Corbett Foundation, BGM has helped rejuvenate over 100 acres of Gauchar land in Kankapur, Gujarat. Complementary initiatives, such as providing fodder seeds and saplings through the Vivekananda Research and Training Institute (VRTI), further strengthen community resilience.

Nutritional Aid Programs

The farm supplies milk powder free of cost to hospitals, NGOs, schools, and old age homes. This initiative reflects the farm’s commitment to public health, social equity, and community welfare through ethical and inclusive dairy practices.

Skill Development In Palghar

The Foundation’s role as a livelihood enabler is evident through skill development initiatives run in partnership with institutions like the Govardhan Skill Centre. Training programs designed for women and youth across Palghar district help cultivate financial independence and improve employment outcomes.

Wildlife–agriculture Coexistence Initiative

Through collaboration with the Corbett Foundation, the farm supports compensation and livestock replacement programs for cattle lost to tiger predation, enabling harmonious coexistence between wildlife and agriculture.

Academic Sponsorship And Mentorship

BGM has a long-standing history of sponsoring postgraduate and PhD students, fostering research in sustainable agriculture, veterinary science, and animal welfare.

Collaborative Academic Outreach

BGM has partnered with the Bombay Veterinary College, bringing students to the farm for practical training. PhD students are encouraged to link their thesis work on animal processes, slaughter research, and related veterinary sciences to on-ground practices at the farm. In collaboration with the esteemed Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, research activities are also conducted on-site, strengthening academic–industry integration and applied learning.

Livelihood Support

The farm supports the daily livelihood of 50–60 individuals and families, with this number doubling during peak agricultural seasons making it a significant local employer and a vital contributor to the rural economy.

Fodder And Grassland Research & Development

Looking ahead, the Foundation is exploring partnerships with premier institutions such as the Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute to strengthen research in grassland management and fodder development. This work is underpinned by a wide range of government departments and NGO partners, ensuring systemic alignment and operational synergy across projects.
